The Story

Cement-based powder adhesive โ€” requires mixing before use. Mix with water on site to a smooth paste. Available in grey and white. For a rapid-setting alternative when speed of installation matters, see Mapei Mapeker Rapid Set Flex.
Grey or white? Use the white version when fixing light-coloured natural stone, pale tiles, or translucent mosaics where grey adhesive may bleed through grout joints. The white version has very high white balance and is slightly more expensive. Both variants have identical technical performance.

A high-performance cement-based tile adhesive with no vertical slip and an extended 30-minute open time. Suitable for interior and exterior floors and walls โ€” bonding ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone tiles and mosaics up to 600ร—600mm. Highly thixotropic, meaning it stays firmly in place on vertical surfaces even with heavy tiles, without sagging or slipping. Also suitable for small-format tiles in swimming pools and basins. Rated EMICODE EC1 Plus โ€” very low emission, making it suitable for sensitive interior environments.

Mixing & preparation
1
Prepare the substrate โ€” it must be flat, sound, and free from loose parts, grease, oils, paints, and wax. Cementitious renders must cure at least 2 weeks; screeds at least 3โ€“4 weeks.
Gypsum and anhydrite substrates must be primed with Mapei Primer G or Eco Prim T Plus before tiling.
2
Mix with clean water โ€” 100 parts powder to 29โ€“31 parts water by weight. For a 20kg sack, use approximately 5.8โ€“6.2 litres of water. Mix until smooth and lump-free, then leave to rest for 5 minutes and re-stir before applying.
Pot life is over 8 hours โ€” unlike rapid-set adhesives you can mix a full sack and work at a comfortable pace.
3
In wet rooms and bathrooms, apply a waterproofing membrane (e.g. Mapei Mapegum WPS or Mapelastic AquaDefense) before tiling. For swimming pools, back-butter all tiles.
4
Mark setting-out lines before mixing โ€” a horizontal datum line and vertical centre. Dry-lay tiles to check cut sizes at both edges before committing to the mix.
5
If surfaces are very warm or in direct sun, dampen with water before applying adhesive to extend the open time.
Fixing & finishing
6
Apply a thin first layer of adhesive with the straight edge of the trowel, then immediately apply the full bed using a notched trowel to the correct depth.
Aim for 65โ€“70% coverage for internal dry walls; 100% solid bed for floors, exterior, and wet areas. Max bed: 5mm.
7
Press tiles firmly into the adhesive with a slight twisting action. Open time is 30 minutes in normal conditions โ€” unfavourable conditions (strong sun, high temperature, absorbent substrate) can reduce this significantly.
Check regularly for skin formation. If a skin has formed, remove and apply fresh adhesive โ€” do not wet the skin, as it creates an anti-adhesive film.
8
Adjust tiles within 45 minutes of placing if needed. Clean surplus adhesive from tile faces and joints with a damp cloth before it dries.
9
Leave movement joints at all internal corners, perimeters, and at regular intervals across large areas. Seal with a Mapei sealant.
10
Grout walls after 4โ€“8 hours (depending on absorbency); floors after 24 hours. Protect newly tiled surfaces from rain for 24 hours and from frost and strong sun for 5โ€“7 days.
Swimming pools and basins can be filled after 21 days. Heavy floor loads (e.g. vehicles) โ€” allow 28 days cure.
