The Story

Cement-based powder adhesive — requires mixing before use. Unlike ready-mixed adhesives, this product is mixed with water on site. It is suitable for floors, walls, exterior, and large-format tiles up to 600×600mm. Available in grey only — for a white adhesive option or when a longer pot life is needed, see Mapei Adesilex P9. For quick DIY bathroom wall tiling with no mixing, see our ready-mixed wall adhesives.
Open time is only 10 minutes. Work in small sections and have tiles ready to place before applying adhesive. In hot or dry conditions the open time may be even shorter — dampen absorbent substrates to help.

A cement-based, rapid-setting flexible tile adhesive for interior and exterior floor and wall installations. Suitable for ceramic, porcelain, and moisture-stable natural stone tiles and mosaics up to 600×600mm. Floors can be walked on after just 3 hours and are ready for full traffic after 24 hours — making it the professional's choice when speed of installation matters. Frost-proof and water-resistant when cured.

How to mix and apply this adhesive Mixing · surface prep · setting out · fixing · grouting
Mixing & preparation
1
Prepare the substrate — it must be sound, stable, flat, and free from oils, grease, wax, and loose material. Damp cement screeds will noticeably prolong setting time.
Gypsum substrates must be primed with Mapei Primer G or Eco Prim T Plus before applying adhesive.
2
Mix the powder with clean water — 100 parts powder to 23–25 parts water by weight. For a 20kg sack, use approximately 4.6–5 litres of water. Use a mechanical mixer for best results.
Mix until smooth and lump-free. Allow to stand for a few minutes then mix briefly again before applying.
3
The mixed adhesive has a pot life of 20 minutes — only mix what you can use in that time. Once it begins to set do not add more water or re-mix.
Open time once applied is only 10 minutes. In hot or dry conditions it may be shorter. Have tiles ready before applying.
4
Mark your setting-out lines before mixing — a horizontal datum line and vertical centre line. Dry-lay tiles to check cut sizes at edges before committing to the mix.
5
In wet rooms and bathrooms, apply a waterproofing membrane (e.g. Mapei Mapegum WPS or Mapelastic AquaDefense) before tiling.
Fixing & finishing
6
Apply adhesive to the substrate with a notched trowel — 6mm notched for normal wall tiles, larger notch for floor tiles and large formats. Apply in sections no larger than 1m².
Max compressed bed thickness: 6mm. For large format tiles, porcelain, and all floor and exterior applications — also back-butter the tile.
7
Press tiles firmly with a twisting/sliding action to ensure full contact. Check open time constantly — if the adhesive has formed a skin, remove it and apply fresh adhesive. Do not wet skinned adhesive.
Adjust tiles within 5–10 minutes of placing. After that the bond begins to set.
8
Aim for a minimum 65–70% adhesive contact for interior dry wall areas; 100% solid bed for floors, exterior, and wet areas. Lift a tile occasionally to check.
9
Clean surplus adhesive from tile faces immediately with a damp cloth. Do not use excessive water. Build in movement joints at all internal corners and perimeters.
10
Grout after 2–3 hours on dry supports. Protect newly tiled floors from washout or rain for 3 hours and from frost and strong sun for 24 hours.
Use a flexible grout for floor and exterior applications. Fill movement joints with Mapesil AC Zero, Mapesil LM, or Mapeflex PU21.
